Woodhouse Grange 2nd XI
The 2nd XI plays an important role at Woodhouse Grange; the aim being to play quality cricket at the highest possible level, and prepare talented cricketers for first team action.
The Second team will again play in the Y&DSCL Division 2 Ebor in 2018, and will look to improve on last year's creditable - if slightly disappointing - fourth place finish.
This is a good competitive level of club cricket, with a number of club's first teams in opposition as well as other second elevens.
With the 1st XI playing in the ECB Yorkshire Premier League North, the club is very keen for the 2nd XI to gain promotion to an even higher level, to bridge the gap in standard. This would be no easy feat, with only the top team being eligible for promotion at the end of the season, and naturally we face stiff competition from strong clubs with similar hopes and plans.
Nevertheless, Woodhouse Grange has high hopes for the 2nd XI this time around.
With the first team having reinforced their squad, an extra cricketer or two of high quality should be available to contribute strongly to the cause.
And with stiff competition for places in all senior teams, we anticipate strong performances in 2018.
The Second XI has become much stronger in recent seasons. Since achieving unprecedented back-to-back unbeaten promotions in 2011-2012, the seconds have consistently finished in the top 4-5 in the table. And in 2016, in addition to finishing third in their division, the 2nd XI won the Readman T20 competition.
There are a number of talented young players in the second team, along with some very able and experienced cricketers. Aiming to steer the team in the right direction will be Tom Quinn, who takes over the captaincy after Rob Daniel's commendable three year stint.
A first team regular for many seasons who has contributed significantly to no fewer than six Y&DSCL Premier League titles, and a 3-time National Village Cup winner, Tom carries the right credentials to drive the 2nd XI up to the next level.
