Woodhouse Grange 3rd XI
Woodhouse Grange are proud to be one of the few clubs to feature a third team in the York & District Senior Cricket League.
Currently in the Y&DSCL Galtres Division 3, the 3rd XI play at a very competitive level of cricket. They predominantly play against other club's first and second teams, often encountering one or two standout players who are capable of playing at a higher level.
The 3rd XI usually has an interesting mix of players with a combination of up and coming younger players - many of whom are in their early teens; some distinguished former first team players, such as Stuart Craven and Russell Bilton; and a handful of other decent cricketers.
This mix of youth and experience is ideal and it allows younger players to settle into a good standard of adult cricket whilst developing their skills.
It is also worth adding that many of our 1st and 2nd XI players progressed through our 3rd XI, so it is a great environment for promising young cricketers.
Knitting these various talents together is skipper Dan Wilson. A very capable wicket-keeper/batsman, Dan progressed through our junior ranks in the mid to late 2000s.
A very popular character at Woodhouse Grange, 'Danish' has the priceless ability to communicate with people at all levels, and has done an excellent job as third team captain in recent seasons.
Woodhouse Grange originally formed their 3rd XI in 1994, playing in the York Vale League for many seasons. These years included some memorable triumphs such as the Prendergast Cup in 1995, Scothern Construction Cup in 2003, and the Prendergast Memorial Trophy in 2005.
The third team was subsequently elected into the York & District Senior Cricket League in 2012, and a year later earned promotion from Division 6 before the league restructure saw them pitched into Division 3 Galtres.
