2018 Season: Start Delayed
Monday, 9th April 2018
The Yorkshire Premier League North and Yorkshire & District Senior Cricket League have decided to postpone the opening round of matches scheduled for 21st April.
Following the torrent of rain in the first quarter of 2018, and with further rain forecast in the coming week, clearly many clubs - not least Woodhouse Grange - would struggle to have their ground fit for play in a fortnight's time. Hence the league committee has taken this unusual step, giving clubs an extra week's preparation.
All fixtures that were due to be played on 21st April have been rescheduled for later in the season, as follows:
- 1st XI Home fixture vs Acomb - now Monday 27th August (Bank Holiday)
- 2nd XI Away fixture vs Acomb - now Saturday 15th September
- 3rd XI Away fixture vs TABS - now Saturday 15th September
The Yorkshire Premier League season will still finish as planned on 8th September, with the champions qualifying for the 'Yorkshire League play-off' semi-finals being played on the following Saturday. Hence the league have reverted to using the August Bank Holiday Monday, despite having decided to no longer schedule fixtures on this date from 2017 onwards.
Division 2 and 3 will however finish one week later - so our second and third teams will be hoping for an 'Indian summer'.
Our fourth team remain unaffected by this change, as their official league programme runs from 28th April to 25th August, due to a reduced number of teams at Division 4 level this year.
The 2nd XI fixture at Knaresborough scheduled for 14th April has also been called off due to the heavy build-up of rain.
However, the first team tour to Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire on 14th & 15th April will proceed. We hope that the inclement weather will subside so that we can take the field against this new and strong opposition. Please come down to support us if you can.
