  • A range of policies, which are available on the club website.

Junior Cricket 1200WJunior cricket is extremely important to Woodhouse Grange, and we are very proud to have a strong reputation for harnessing cricketing talent.

The development of young cricketers has been, and continues to be, the cornerstone of the club’s many successes. Many players in our four senior teams started as juniors at Woodhouse Grange.

We provide coaching for children as young as five, with 5-8 year olds participating in sessions that we run as part of the ECB's All Stars Cricket initiative. For 2018, eight sessions, run by a dedicated coach, will run on Friday nights at Woodhouse Grange from 1st June to 20th July. Please visit our All Stars Cricket page to sign up or find out more.

JUNIOR COACHING

  • During the cricket season junior coaching is held on Friday evenings* from 6.30pm to 8.00pm at Woodhouse Grange Cricket Club, Sandhill Lane, Sutton-upon-Derwent, York YO41 4DF (*weather permitting)
  • From the start of February, pre-season coaching (for 9-15 year olds) is held on an evening at a local school.
  • The club has a number of ECB trained and qualified coaches.
  • The club also has strong contacts with regional and county representative sides, and we will actively support juniors to become involved in representative teams.

PROGRESSING INTO ADULT TEAMS

  • We have four senior teams playing league cricket on Saturdays at various levels.
The club looks to get junior players (U13 upwards)  involved in senior teams whenever possible.
  • Most Saturdays about half the 3rd XI and 4th XI teams are made up of teenagers.
  • Our Academy and Intermediates teams play a big part in integrating young players into the senior game.
  • When teenagers play for senior teams we always try to get them properly involved with the game.

Holly Cooper U13 Champion 586WGirls are just as welcome as boys to play cricket at Woodhouse Grange.

A number of girls have played junior and senior cricket at our club.

Our very own Holly Cooper (pictured) was a key member of Yorkshire Girls U13 championship-winning side in 2017.

From around the age of 9, young cricketers can graduate to our U11s team, giving them opportunities to play against other teams from local rival clubs in a number of evening fixtures during the season; this is played in 'pairs cricket' format, ensuring that all players bat and bowl in each match. Practice sessions are held at Woodhouse Grange on Friday nights from early May until mid July.

Once passing the U11 age group, juniors elevate to the U13s team. This group of players also practice on Friday nights during the summer. U13 fixtures, however, are played in teams of eleven players on Sunday mornings, with these being 20 overs per side.

The next step is our U15s team, who play using a full size (5.5oz) for the first time. The U15s play league and cup matches, mainly on Monday nights, of 20 overs per side duration.

This age group are also invited to attend net practice with our senior players on Thursday nights during the summer. A number of U15 players are likely to be called up into our senior teams on Saturdays, and opportunities for Sunday and evening cricket may also arise

Woodhouse Grange continues to nurture cricketers beyond these age groups. running two teams specifically for our 'older' junior players.

The T.H.Hobson Academy plays on Wednesday evenings against local senior teams, whilst the Intermediates team play a handful of Sunday fixtures each season against mainly junior players.
